- Choose a domain name that is not too long. You can have a domain name up to 63 characters. But it may be hard for your clients to remember such a long domain name.
- Try choosing a catchy name that is easy to remember. Not everyone bookmarks sites right away. And even if they bookmark your website, they may have too many bookmarks to search through to find you.
- Try to register a .com name if it’s available. If .com is not available for the name you want, you can choose another domain extension. No matter which extension you choose, they are all recognizable by the search engines.
- You may want to secure .net, .org, and .biz extensions as well for your domain name protection. This will ensure you are the only one with that name (as far as top level and/or popular domain extensions go).
- Optionally you can also use hyphens in your domain name. If your domain name is a two, three or even a four word name, you may want to place hyphens between each word. Search engines can read these just fine.
- Domain name privacy. Don’t want your name, address, and telephone listed to the public’s viewing eyes? Order domain name privacy with your domain. It’s like having an unlisted number in the phone book.
